MSA Welcomes New Employees

Virginia Beach, VA – MSA, P.C. would like to welcome the following new employees:

Kevin Worsham, EIT, joined MSA as a Project Engineer I in our engineering department. A Lynchburg, VA native, Worsham holds a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Virginia Tech, as well as a Master’s of Engineering in Civil Engineering Water Resources and a Coastal Engineering Certificate from ODU. In his spare time, he is an avid outdoorsman; he enjoys hunting, fishing, kayaking, golfing and supporting the Virginia Tech football and basketball teams.

J. Charles "Charlie" Blackwell, joined MSA’s environmental sciences department as an Environmental Technician. Blackwell is a 2015 graduate of UNC Wilmington and holds a B.S. in Geology, as well as an Associate of Arts Degree from the College of the Albemarle. Prior to joining MSA, he completed an independent, year-long hydrologic study of temporal variations in electrical conductivity within the Bradley Creek watershed. Originally from Virginia Beach, Blackwell enjoys hiking, camping, snowboarding, surfing, and playing soccer.

Jason Thomas, PLA joined MSA's landscape architecture team. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture from Virginia Tech, a Master's in Education from ODU, and brings over 10 years of professional experience to MSA in his field. A Hampton Roads native, Thomas is a faithful volunteer for various community organizations including Lynnhaven River Now and Relay for Life; he is also the Education Chair for the Virginia Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). In his spare time, Thomas enjoys spending time with his family, camping, hiking, surfing, and supporting Virginia Tech football.

Dan Pleasant Appointed to Board of Directors for Virginia's Chamber of Commerce

The Virginia Chamber of Commerce has announced the newest members appointed to its board of directors, including Dewberry’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Dan Pleasant, PE.

Members of the board represent small and large businesses from across the commonwealth and are involved in advancing Virginia’s business climate. As a board member, Pleasant participates in policy development meetings and other miscellaneous business development opportunities.

Pleasant has been with Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, for nearly 40 years and has served as COO for the last seven. He is responsible for strategic direction, business development and direct client engagement, and financial performance. As COO, he has managed the acquisitions of several companies. He previously served as the firm’s southeast president and began his career with Dewberry as the business manager for the Danville, Virginia, office.

As an active participant in community and civic organizations, Pleasant served two terms on the board of directors for the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and is a current board member for American National Bank. He serves on the advisory board for North Carolina State University’s Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering and is a member of the Future of the Piedmont Foundation in Danville, Virginia.

Pleasant earned a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University and is licensed as a professional engineer in 11 states.

Scott Hartford Elected Vice President

Scott Hartford has been elected a vice president of Stanley Consultants, a worldwide provider of engineering, environmental and construction services. Hartford is the technical innovation leader and a client service manager for the U.S. Federal & International Programs Market where he develops and manages client relations and project management for USACE, NAVFAC, AFCEC and other Federal agencies. A retired colonel from the U.S. Air Force, Hartford joined Stanley Consultants in 2014.

Deberry Announces Promotion of David Maxwell

Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced the promotion of David Maxwell, PE, LEED AP BD+C, to senior vice president.

With this promotion, Maxwell is responsible for leading the civil engineering operations of the firm’s southern Virginia and North Carolina offices, including Richmond, Virginia Beach, Danville, Raleigh, and Charlotte. In this role, he works closely with Dewberry’s local leadership to set operational and growth strategies in the Southeast. He continues to serve as the manager of the firm’s Richmond and Virginia Beach offices.

With more than 23 years of experience, Maxwell serves a diverse client base, including local municipalities, private industries, and large institutions. His background includes the management of full-service term contracts and large multidiscipline teams to bring unique engineering solutions to his clients.

Maxwell earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Virginia (1994). He is a registered professional engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional BD +C. He is a member of the Water Environment Federation, the American Water Works Association, the American Public Works Association, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Virginia, and the Society of American Military Engineers.
